COVID-19: MainOne Announces Resumption of Operations across Locations

Further to our previous announcement on the lockdown of key operations across our regional offices due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, MainOne Group of companies hereby announces resumption of operations at our various office locations on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

Having keenly monitored developments in Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Portugal including the latest pronouncements by the Governments of these countries to gradually ease the lockdown restrictions, we will resume operations on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at our various office locations in accordance with new operational procedures as laid down by the governmental regulatory bodies across these locations.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during the COVID-19 lockdown. With your support, we achieved hitch-free delivery of our connectivity and data center services. To further prevent the spread of the virus, we have activated new workplace protocols in line with social distancing and hygiene best practices. We will continue to maintain strict measures to protect our office premises, facilities and staff from the risk of COVID-19 and other diseases that could put our operations and those of our customers at risk.

Therefore, until the current wave of the spread of the virus is contained or a more definitive cure or vaccine is found, MainOne shall maintain the following operational processes and procedures with respect to all our premises and facilities.

Health & Safety

The health and safety of our staff, customers and communities remain of utmost concern to MainOne. We will continue to act in line with governmental regulations and global best practices in our operations across all geographies and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize risk to our people, facilities and customers:

To that end, social distancing rules and hygienic practices shall continue to be observed at all time across all our premises and facilities, and we have also taken steps to drastically reduce physical employee presence at all our offices to ensure strict adherence to social distancing measure to contain the spread of the virus.

In addition, for our customers and partners:

  • We will continue to enforce strict restriction of third-party access to our office premises and facilities for non-essential activities.
  • Physical meetings with vendors and customers shall be conducted only through virtual platforms, except where physical meetings are absolutely necessary and requisite pre-approvals have been granted in accordance with MainOne internal access rules.
  • Access restriction to our Data Centers shall continue to be enforced and each access request shall be evaluated on its merit and approval shall be granted in line with our emergency access procedures. Operational access request will require 24hrs notice, while project related access request will require a minimum of 72hrs notice to allow for effective resource planning and need to incorporate appropriate social distancing strategies to limit the number of individuals in a location at any particular time.

Should there be a need to visit the data centre, visitors will be required to complete an access request form with attestation that the visitor has not been exposed to risk of infection, while basic health screening will be carried out at the gate before visitors are allowed to gain entrance into the facility. In line with governmental regulations, all visitors to the facility shall be required to wear appropriate masks before being allowed to enter the facility or premises.

Continuous Service

We are determined to ensure that we continue to deliver and maintain seamless services as we have prior to and during the past few weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant lockdown. To that end, MainOne is consistently reviewing its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to accommodate changing operating dynamics during this period, ensuring that only the required number of operational staff are physically present at our offices and facilities at any particular time, whilst other staff either work remotely or on a well-structured rotation basis where they are required at the office.

We also continue to encourage our customers to take advantage of our Remote Hands and Eyes Support (RHES) services as much as possible during this evolving period. Our dedicated and qualified engineers will continue to act as your “eyes and hands” to perform various tasks on your behalf, saving you travel costs, logistics, associated health risk and ensuring we maintain efficient operations within our data center premises for the good of all stakeholders. Request for such services can be made by sending email to gnoc@mainone-web.azurewebsites.net or through the customer portal https://portal.mainone-web.azurewebsites.net. While these access restrictions remain in place, Class I & II services will remain free, while customers will need to pay a token for more complex class III services.

Once again, we appreciate your continued cooperation throughout this challenging period and will keep you informed on any changes to our operating procedures accordingly.
